Introductions & Letter Writing
Today’s post will have two topics. The first part will be focused on introductions and the second part will be focused on letter writing.
Introductions:
When you are introducing two people to each other, you introduce the lesser to the greater, the man to the woman, and younger to the older. For example, if you were introducing you friend, Thomas, to your Bishop, then you would say Thomas, this is His Excellency, the Bishop of (Diocese). Likewise, if you were introducing Thomas to someone older, then you would say, Thomas, this is Mister Johnson. Finally, if you were introducing a woman to Thomas, you would say, Thomas, this is Miss Jane.

One should extend his hand to a lady. Handshaking is a manly practice. If a lady extends her hand to you, then it is perfectly acceptable to shake. Kissing a lady’s hand was common and expected at one point in time, however, American culture has changed in past decades and this is no longer a common practice. Nevertheless, there are some people who still do this. If you feel comfortable, you may also make make a small bow to a lady.
Letter Writing:
- Always use you best penmanship.
- If you know cursive, then use that over printing.
- Address your letter correctly. See below for a sample addressed envelope.
- Remember, letters are more formal than texts or conversations.
- Make sure your letter complies with all the postal requirements, otherwise it may not make it to the recipient.
- If you use one side of your paper for the letter, then you can fold it and use the outer side as the envelope. This is called a regency letter.
- Use wax seals to give your letters a personal touch. See this article for more information https://catholicnewsboy.com/wax-sealing/
