3-30: A Thirty Day Exercise For Men Discerning The Priesthood And Devotion To Saint Joseph
Celibacy, obedience, and a commitment to pray the Divine Office every day are three obligations of the priest. 3-30 is a one month exercise that focuses on these three things.
Over the next month, you will try to the best of your ability to complete the three daily requirements:
- Say the Divine Offices of Lauds and Compline and pray about your vocation. You may also pray the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
- Practice the virtue of chastity to greater degrees than you have done before and wear and practice the devotion of the cord of Saint Joseph.
- Practice the virtue of obedience as Saint Joseph did. Be obedient to whomever may be in charge of you.
The White Cord Of Saint Joseph:
Almost 400 hundred years ago, in Belgium, an Augustinian, Sr. Elizabeth, was suffering from a painful and mysterious illness. She had a special devotion to Saint Joseph and had a cord blessed in his honor and wrapped around her waist. A few days later her doctors declared her healed by a miracle.
There are 5 main graces associated the the cord.
- St. Joseph’s special protection
- Purity of soul
- The grace of chastity
- Final perseverance
- Particular assistance at the hour of death
